(+1)

NO

(+3)

Can't seem to reach the ending?

So I'm at the spot, where I've pressed X twice, and the Flag has opened and the door appeared, and I can't chose either. If I go to the flag, the screen turns white, and a high pitched noise plays, but nothing happens, and the door is not intractable. Bug or am I missing something?

I have the same problem :c

Hi! Good luck on the steam/dmca issue! Quick question: can we rebind controls as we see fit?

(+1)

Funny suggestion. What if the affine mapping and limited pallete are disabled when you're in?

(+1)

Is this Itch version more updated than the one steam had? I have the steam one purchased but has there been updates since that only you can get on Itch? Is it significant enough to want to get the itch version?

(+2)

Wonderful game, I am however having an issue related to the ending: touching either of the things that should end the game does not end the game. Instead, nothing happens and I am just stuck in the final room.

(+1)

happy i could still buy this on itch. as i have been waiting to :)

Absolutely devastated to hear the news that No Players Online got removed from Steam due to a potentially false DMCA takedown 💔

False and fake DMCA claims hurt everyone; they hurt you and me, the developers, and the entire industry. Copyright is serious business and they should only be given out when there is actual copyright infringement taking place. Taking down a game because you claim you own the rights to it (keyword: CLAIM) is a horrible argument and is a bad legal defense. This game has not been removed from Itch, so I am very suspicious and I am pretty sure that this is yet another example of companies abusing the DMCA to get what they want, but we will see. If it is, then I won't be surprised at all given past incidents. In fact, the same thing happened to Misery recently; it was also hit with a fake DMCA claim and was removed from Steam about a week ago. So, it really won't be surprising if it's yet another case of flagrant abuse of the system by bad actors.

Submitting false and/or fraudulent DMCA claims should have serious legal consequences and ramifications for constant misuse and abuse of the system, such as hefty fines and compensation to the individual or the developer(s). But the current system is weighed in favor of the fraudulent party and 9 times out of 10 the claimants are the ones who win these legal battles because of the system being weighed in their favor. It's absolutely unfair! The right to a fair and honest trial exists for a reason.

We need this current DMCA system completely repealed and replaced with a more up-to-date system that includes fines and legal liability for claimants who repeatedly and constantly abuse the system.

[I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice.]

Will there be a Linux build once the game comes back?
EDIT: Found dev's reply, Linux build is planned <3

(+3)

DMCA takedown according to the dev on twitter. Really messed up - same thing just happened to Misery

(+1)

This game just disappeared from Steam ? Can anyone tell me why ?

(+3)

what happened to the steam release? I was gonna buy it today but now it says item unavailable on my wishlist

(+1)(-1)

Apparently there was some kind of confusion according to the web and that's why it's not there

(+3)

No, it wasn't confusion - it was a full-blown DMCA claim which caused the game to be removed from Steam.

(+1)

fear

(+1)

wait has the game been updated or something I remember watching markiplier play this years ago it looked sick.

(+2)

Yup, it's a full release and extension of that early version. Worth the 15 bucks imo

(+1)

Heya !

I just finished the game on steam, and i had a really great time. The puzzles and story were good, and i was just wondering if you planned to release the soundtrack on streaming platforms like bandcamp or spotify ?

(+1)

yes! ill let you know when we put it up, should be soon :)

(+1)

Nice, thankies

heyy, any updates on that soundtrack ?

(+1)

I can't seem to get this game to launch on linux at all. At best I get a small black window and then execution ends. I've tried the following:

Native Wine, Bottles, and through Steam via non-steam programs.

I've seen others having the same issue here and elsewhere, but no one has any solutions. So if the devs are reading, it'd be nive to get some help on this.

(+2)

hey! i'm working on porting the game officially to linux :) will keep you updated

(+2)

I managed to get it working after that update you pushed this morning.

(+1)

I love you guys for supporting Linux, I will buy this game ASAP <3

Adam, I have to say that I think you truly made something special with this new version of No Players Omline. This is a full-on commercial release of one of my favorite freeware horror titles that has a surprising amount of content, story elements, and deep lore surrounding both the developer John Mullard and Sarah. I even love how many simple, silly little mini-games there are, like the parody of Minesweeper and that fake visual novel dating sim. The most notable part about what makes me love it so much is that it is a full single-player campaign. Whereas the original freeware title was just a base for a really in-depth alternate reality game (ARG), this is a game that explores the concept even further and takes it to new heights and levels. You enter the world of MC-93, a fake operating system tied into the game's world where you learn of a mysterious capture the flag game that has long since been abandoned, and you eventually trudge through the OS, finding clues and secrets to uncover the story of John Mullard, the owner of Enuit Games, and his mysterious, never-released video game. You spend a lot of time in the OS digging through archives, notes, and downloading and even combining fake software that you will combine with the main CTF build, which usually are separate playable games with their own unique charm and feel to it before you are able to reconnect Sarah with her past and eventually John Mullard himself. This, in my eyes, is a massive exploration game where you advance the story at your own pace, and you even can dig through a whole fake in-game internet complete with fake forums, websites, blogs, and everything else, reminiscent of one of my favorite indie games of all time, Hypnospace Outlaw, where you take the role of a HypnOS Enforcer to clean up people's acts and keep the world of Hypnospace under control. This CTF game John created is actually a portal to Sarah, who in this game, has taken the form of a record player and only has very limited memory of her past. It contains all of her memories and her past life with John, who added her to his game to remind him of her and keep her soul and spirit alive. The original game released all that time ago was just the base of an ARG experience, where you would have to dig through the game's blog posts here on Itch to uncover hidden features or even separate games outright that tie into the game's interconnected world. But this? This is a full commercial game that takes your original idea and concept and cranks it up to 100. The original game was a short experience, a short freeware title, but this on the other hand is a multi-hour long commercial package with hours of content and mini-games to play on top of the game's main campaign and story. This new expansion takes what made me love the original so much and just improves upon it tenfold. For a game priced at $15 USD, this is a massive steal for what you get. I honestly think that this is a special little game that people who play it will only get to experience once. I highly advise against backseating with this game, because it is truly special and I think players who play it need to go in blind to get the full, raw experience like I did. I beat the game's campaign in roughly 4 hours and I had an absolute blast. This has to be one of my all-time favorite indie game releases from this year. As a big fan of your original No Players Online game, this took everything I loved with the original game and just absolutely shot it into the stratosphere.

9/10, this is an absolutely INCREDIBLE game.

(+2)

not opening

(+1)

This game is so cool! I almost didn't beat it.

Some feedback (with spoilers):

1. So, the UI on John Mullard's beta copy of the CTF makes it look like I can't click on the start game button. The text on the button is a really similar gray value to the button block, and the mouse doesn't change shape to indicate that the button is clickable. This sounds like a minor issue, except I spent way too long trying to make another stone because I thought that I needed another stone to make the game playable.

2. The game is really difficult and confusing to play. And on the one hand, that is fantastic. It is so satisfying to solve puzzles without any handholding. But on the other, some parts are really frustrating because there's almost no indication or feedback on what I'm supposed to be doing. For instance, when I was in the ocean with the snake monster, I fell in that ocean about 4 or 5 times before I tried finding help online for what I was supposed to do next (was I supposed to let the monster kill me? Was I supposed to kill the monster? Where was I supposed to go?). And the only help I got online was "capture ALL the blue flags." And that's when I finally noticed a really faint blue light coming from behind the monster that I was able to swim to (after, of course, trying to swim directly for the blue, flag-like monster). I understand if the intent is to make it difficult intentionally (because we're supposed to be playing as a snoop on someone else's computer, so if we can't be bothered to hunt for difficult things, then what's the point), but it'd be great if there was a little more help in the game. I don't know if it's possible to add any help to the game while still letting the player do pretty much everything on their own.

But really, truly, this game is so clever and strange and mysterious. I can't believe I waited so long to try it.

(+1)

I cannot I add my guest account as a friend in the chat program, literally unplayable.

(+1)

I think I got softlocked on the "set max players", I think I press "esq" and got unable to interact with the game in any way.

(+1)

ahh i see, did you try pressing return / enter key?

(+1)

If I remember correctly, yes.

(+1)(-1)

Fire..I mean..just FIRE!!!
